As has been shown, Beyer loved to use animals in his works, and they often had human characteristics. Besides his love for animals of the forest, he had a special fondness for animals of the farm and field. Having grown up on a farm in Virginia, he was intimately aware of farm animals and their movements and habits. You will see this in his pigs, horses, goats, cows, bulls, rabbits, chickens, cats, dogs and other animals – some of which are displayed here. He also depicted animals from other parts of the world. All his animals seem to be endowed with personality.
